Alpha 1 Released - First Build
First build of SimpleTiles (0.1.0 a1) has been released. It is an extremely rudamentary build with essentially no features, but does demonstrate some procedural generation and player movement.
Press the tilde key (~) to change your z-index. This can be used to switch between the surface and caves. There is currently no real connection between them, so if you switch underground and are stuck inside a cave wall you will need to dig a path (see below).
There are currently 10 placeable tiles: Deep Water, Shallow Water, Grass, Mountain/Rock, Snow, Tree, Leaves, Sand, Torch, and Cave Floor. This is mostly just for debugging/navigation purposes and is obviously going to be very different later on, but all of these can be placed by pressing 1 through 0 on your keyboard and right clicking around your character (a blue selection box should appear on the tile you're about to place).
To see progress on the next patch/update, see the Trello page.
